Zulum Orders Construction Of New General Hospital, School In

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the construction of a new General Hospital for Damboa town in Damboa Local Government Area of the state. 

The governor aslo approved the reconstruction of two primary schools in Garjang community of the LGA. 

The move was to improve healthcare services and educational facilities in the southern Borno State.

Governor Zulum gave the directive when he paid a visit to the Damboa town and Garjang community, both in the same LGA.

The existing hospital in Damboa has been occupied by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who sought shelter, prompting the need for a new facility. 

The Governor emphasized the importance of providing quality and affordable medical services to the growing population. 

He explained that the planned modern hospital will be constructed around the existing one, serving as an extension even after the IDPs leave. 

He noted that the expansion would address the increasing healthcare needs of the community.

“As you can see, the hospital premises is occupied by internally displaced persons.

"Therefore, we will construct a new hospital complex around the existing one, where, even after the IDPs leave, it will serve as an extension to provide medical services for the increasing needs of the growing population,” Zulum said.

During the visit, Governor Zulum also approved the reconstruction and remodeling of the Government Secondary School in Damboa, which had been destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor expressed his commitment to reviving educational institutions affected by the insurgency, ensuring that students have access to quality education. 

Meanwhile, the governor said that the two primary schools in Garjang, namely the Garjang Community Integrated Primary School and Garjang Central Primary and Junior Secondary School, would undergo reconstruction and receive new fencing.

Governor Zulum, accompanied by a UK-based Urological Surgeon, Professor Baba Mallam Gana, and other officials, assessed student performances and addressed the shortage of teachers. 

The governor pledged to recruit qualified teachers from the local residents to enhance the educational experience for the students.

Others in the Governor's entourage included Engr Ibrahim Idriss, immediate past Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation and Dr Ali Umar Bashir, a project coordinator at the Multi Crises Recovery Project (MCRP) of the World Bank.
