The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum has directed the procurement of 500 tricycles and 100 Corolla LE model of Toyota cars for Keke Napep operators.

Zulum gave the directive in Maiduguri while hosting the Keke Napep operators during the weekend at the government house.

The governor said 2000 Keke Napep operators will benefit from the gesture.

He explained that four people will be allocated to one tricycle sharing gains as they pay 50percent while the government pays the other half.

He further stated that this was aimed at empowering those who do not own their own tricycles.

He further explained that 200 other people will benefit from the 100 Toyota cars and will pay half the market value as that of the 500 tricycles.

While warning that only deserving members be given, he directed the Borno state Ministry of Transportation to work with all unions of the tricycle operators to come to terms in respect of the distribution.

The governor said the move was to meet the needs of the populace contrary to the previous ban on the importation of tricycles to curb issues of crimes.

Alhaji Hurso Grema who spoke on behalf of the union appreciated the governor, adding that the governor has helped in vindicating their members over people who use the tricycle for criminal acts.
