Governor Babagana Zulum
The governor of Borno state, Babagana Umara Zulum has visited Cross Kauwa market, a former Boko Haram Stronghold in Kukawa local government area of the state.
The visit was to build community resilience to resettelled communities in the State.
Recall that on 29th July, 2020 when governor Zulum opened the Baga-Monguno road which was closed due to activities of Boko Haram, the people of Cross Kauwa where voluntarily returned by the governor.
The community is located over 200km drive away from Maiduguri, the state's capital to the far North close to lake Chad.
The governor interacted with the people, some of whom have come from other communities neighbouring the Kukawa Local Government Area to engage in business activities.
Zulum assured that his government will continue to support security agencies in order to sustain the peace enjoyed the community.
He added that with the improvement of peace in the state, it will allow government reopen markets for businesses to strive.
In a statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Malam Isa Gusau, Zulum said: “This is a very fundamental achievement for us to see normalcy returning to this part of the country.
"You can see the large crowd of people going about their normal business activities in Cross Kauwa market which is holding today.
"You can see large numbers of them with their herds of cattle and some with their implements going to farm.
"This is an indication of normal life returning to Monguno, Kukawa and other parts of northern Borno hitherto occupied by the insurgents."
Zulum further appreciated president Muhammadu Buhari and the the Nigerian Armed Forces alongside other stakeholders for their efforts in bringing peace to the state.
