From Fundación Albacete, the Alicante native joined Villarreal for the 2007/08 campaign and has since progressed through the Submarine ranks representing the U19s, as well as both the B and C teams. At just 18 years of age, he made his debut in the First Division (2008/09) against Atlético Madrid. That same season, Mario helped the Villarreal B team to promotion to the Second Division which is considered to be a historic milestone for the Yellows Reserve team. In the 2010/11 season, he moved up to the First Team full time, where he has since become one of the captains and key players for the Submarine.
The Alicante full-back possesses great speed, which he uses to great effect when going forward and likewise makes him very difficult to beat defensively. Another of his strengths is his great crossing ability when he gets to the byline, having assisted many goals from the right-wing.
