Heartland Football Club of Owerri is one of the oldest teams in the country's top-flight league, the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

It was founded in 1976 as Spartans FC of Owerri by the then newly created Imo State. In 1985 it became Iwuanyanwu Nationale, named after Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the businessman who funded it for 20 years. In 2006 it and was returned to Imo State current name.
