History of Ikenne

Ikenne Local Government has Ikenne Remo as its Headquaters, it was created in September, 1991 from the defunct Remo Local Government. It is bounded on the west by Obafemi-Owode Local Govenment
 
Using 1991 National population commission census figure and projected to 1998 based on 3% growth rate has 72,980 people. The Local Government Area is about 137.13 kilometers in size.

The Local Government as a whole is semi-urban,comprising five major towns namely Iperu, IIisan, Ogere, Ironu and Ikenne, the Headquaters.The people are mainly of Remo stock with trading and farming as their predominant occupation. It has an area of 144 km2 and a population of 118,735 at the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 121.
