History of Ikwerre
Ikwerre Local Government Area (LGA) is located in Rivers State, Nigeria. The administrative headquarters of Ikwerre is in the town of Isiokpo, which is regarded as the ancient Kingdom of Ikwerre land.
Ikwerre is considered the first Iwuhuohna local government, and subsequently, Emohua, Obio/Akpor, and Port Harcourt LGAs were created. The Ikwerre tribe shares boundaries with Imo State to the north, Emohua to the west, Etche to the east, and Obio-Akpor to the south. The postal code of Ikwerre LGA is 511001.
Some of the towns and communities within Ikwerre LGA include Isiokpo, Elele, Omagwa, Ipo, Aluu, Omuanwa, Omademe, Ozuoha, and Ubima. The Ikwerre language, also known as Ikwere or Ikwerri, is widely spoken among the residents, alongside English and other Nigerian languages.
