History of Suru

Suru Local Government Area (LGA) is located in Kebbi State, Nigeria. Suru LGA was created in 1991 out of Bunza LGA as part of administrative restructuring efforts. The headquarters of Suru LGA is situated in the town of Dakingari. 

Suru LGA covers a total area of approximately 1,352 square kilometers. According to the 2006 census, Suru LGA had a population of 150,230 inhabitants. The current estimated population is approximately 176,112 people. The population comprises various ethnic groups, with the Fulani being the predominant ethnic group. Other prominent ethnic groups include the Hausa and Zarma.

Suru LGA is composed of several towns, villages, and rural settlements, including Bakuwai, Dakingari, Giro, Ginga, Tanikwara, Shema, Sangelu, and Gwafadi. The primary language spoken in Suru LGA is the Fulfulde language. Additionally, the Hausa and Zarma languages are also spoken. The postal code assigned to Suru LGA is 862.
