Yauri Town/City

History of Yauri

Yauri Local Government Area (LGA) is situated in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria. Yauri is renowned for being the location of the Yauri Emirate, one of the smallest historical emirates in Northern Nigeria.

According to historical records from 1972, Yauri LGA had a population of approximately 112,000 people. The area spans about 3,380 square kilometers (1,306 sq mi) and comprises six major districts, each with its own unique characteristics and demographics.

Yauri LGA is home to diverse ethnic groups, including Shangawa, Gungawa, Dukawa, Kamberi, Hausa, Nupe, Yoruba, and Kanuri.
Over time, the predominance of the Hausa ethnic group in the socio-political structure of northern Nigeria has led to the gradual transformation of some dominant ethnic groups in Yauri, resulting in a process commonly referred to as "Hausanization." The Hausa language serves as the primary means of communication in Yauri LGA.
