Katsina State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, has disclosed that female students performed better than their male counterparts in the state in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Lawal made this known during the closing ceremony of the Girl Education Project (GEP-III) on Thursday in Katsina.
According to him, the state's commitment to empowering girls through educational programmes contributed to their excellent performance during the examination.
Of the 18,321 students who participated in the examination, 10,441 were male while 7,880 were female.
Lawal revealed that 4,627 female students scored credit in English language while 5,632 males scored credit making 58.7 and 54 per cent respectively.
He noted that 5,678 girls scored credits, while 4,726 boys scored credits in Mathematics.
Generally, At least 56 per cent of the girls got five credits as against the 48 per cent of their male counterparts who passed in five subjects.
