Heads of Local Government Administrations in Osun State have been urged to give full cooperation for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming population and housing census.
The Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye stated this during a meeting with members of the Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC) for the 2023 Census.
The SSG is also the chairman of the IMC set up by Osun state government for the exercise.
Represented at the meeting by the State Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, he said the exercise is important to help government plan adequately for the people.
Igbalaye equally implored the HLGAs to work in synergy with the Committee setup by the state government.
He noted that conducting a good census will enable the federal government to adequately plan for the various states, adding that it could also lead to the creation of more Local Government areas.
He urged them to also ensure that the State is not short changed just like it happened during the 1991 Census.
Speaking at the meeting, Rtd. Justice Kunle Adeigbe who is in charge of boundary settlement in Osun state implored all towns, villages and people living in Osun State in general to forget the issue of boundary dispute for now in order to achieve actual figure and data that will bring more resources and growth to the State.
In her own address, the Coordinating Director, Ministy of Economic Planning, Budget Development, Yetunde Esan highligheted the importance of local government heads, maintaining that they should ensure that the state is not shortchanged in the coming national population and housing census ..
Also speaking at the meeting, the Coordinating Director, Ministy of Information and civic Orientation, Bukola Aderibigbe, explained that public enlightenment is very important at this crucial time.
The Statistician General, Osun State, Yemi Ijidele, who is also the Secretary to the Committee stressed the importance of the 2023 Census to the State just as he implored residents to cooperate with the officials of the National Population Commission when the exercise commences.
