Khadija Okunnu-Lamidi has revealed that the EndSARS protest motivated her to run for presidency in 2023.

The female presidential candidate who recently declared her intentions to battle with Atiku Abubakar, Bola Ahmed Tinubu amongst others disclosed this during an interview with BBC pidgin.

When asked what motivated her to come out, Khadija said the EndSARS protests in October 2020 did, although she has been in talks with some young Nigerian like the late Sound Sultan.

According to the aspirant, most of the youths she spoke with declined her idea with fear that it was a set-up and the country should remain leaderless.

“I decided to run for the presidential post during the EndSARS protest, especially after that October 20 incident.

"As at then, I had been asking many young prospects to come out but they thought it was a set-up, while some felt we should remain leaderless.

“God bless Sound Sultan, we were planning that time to pick one of our youths to run for president but all of them taught it was a set-up, while some felt we should remain leaderless, but one can’t enter into politics without a leader.

“At that point, it occurred to me that if I truly have the passion, I should be the one to step out and take the risk for us to have a better Nigeria", she said.

When asked how serious she is about her ambition, she replied, “As you can see, my entrance into the race has not been a joke.”
