The Vice Chairman of the North South Power Station, Olubumi Peters, has disclosed that about 24 babies have been delivered at the company's facility by Internally Displaced Persons who fled banditry attack.

Peters who made the revelation during the 2022 NSP annual flood stakeholders sensitisation forum in Minna on Wednesday stated that the pregnant women were those from Galadima-Kogo and environ.

Represented by Abdullahi Hassan, Consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility to NSP, he said: “Nineteen pregnant women among the IDPs delivered 22 babies in the company’s hospital and all their medications and treatment were paid for as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility."

He added that the company would continue to place a high value on the safety of lives and property of host communities.

He also said the dams were not yet filled to the point of overflowing but it is pertinent to sensitise the host communities on likely flooding.

“The dam is not filled yet, it is still receiving water and storage.

"Before it spills water, we do alert communities upstream and downstream and when we spill, we are very conscious of people living downstream and we do what is called step release of water.

“We do all these things to ensure that downstream people are safe and water release from the dam reservoir is part of safety measures because if the water is not released when the reservoir is filled up, the dam system and structure can collapse,” he said.
