Egypt sailed past Ivory Coast in a tough encounter at the Douala stadium in Cameroon on Wednesday to progress into the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022.

It was a very tight call on the night as they both cancelled each other out but Ivory Coast proved more threatening on the attack with Nicholas Pepe and Wilfried Zaha flanking the Egyptians.

The game needed penalties to settle the scores as extra time was not even enough for the two contenders.

The Egyptians had a solid defence as they try to force a counter-attack on occasions in order to hurt the Ivory Coasts.

Mohamed Salah scored the final kick for perfect penalties for the Egyptians but Eric Bailly's miss cost the Ivorians the match as it was the only miss in the shootout.

PENALTIES

Pepe was the first taker which executed to perfection as he sent the keeper the wrong way.
