A Twitter user identified as Dan Yomi shared via the X platform how his Nigerian mother finally accepted him after rejecting him as a gay son for five years and how LGBTQ rights are still completely frowned upon in Nigeria.

Recall that Nigerian law on LGBTQ is primarily governed by the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, signed into law in 2014.

This legislation criminalizes same-sex relationships, including marriages, civil unions, and public displays of affection between same-sex couples.

Individuals found guilty under this law can face imprisonment for up to 14 years. The law has been criticized for its impact on the rights and safety of the LGBT community in Nigeria.

Celebrities who were hinted to be in the LGBT Community in Nigeria have also been tackled by this unchanged law.

Also recall how the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Abuja, Dr Ekpe Phillip, had advised Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky, to seek psychological help to be able to function properly as a male that he was created to be.

Apart from Bobrisky, Philip also admonished other persons in the society acting and behaving like a member of the opposite sex to urgently seek help so as not to jeopardise the health of others in the society.

According to the consultant gynaecologist and specialist in reproductive health, who is also the current Chief Medical Director of Nyanya General Hospital, Abuja, Bobrisky cannot be a woman because he lacks vital reproductive and sex organs that women have.

Philip said, “People like Bobrisky need help and that is why they must seek psychological assistance."

Another suspected partaker in the LGBTQ community identified as Denrele had shared how he had tried to exchange pleasantries with a lady who had rejected a handshake because she had felt he was gay.

Nigerian singer, Temmie Ovwasa, formerly known as YBNL Princess who recently became the the boldest celebrity to openly disclose her identity as an LGBTQ community partaker also revealed that she went to several churches to be delivered from lesbianism.

She said despite being raised by a pastor and attending so many deliverances, the spirit of gay still didn’t leave her.

The 26-year-old singer disclosed this in the latest episode of Doyin’s Corner audiovisual podcast hosted by former Big Brother Naija reality star, Doyinsola David.

She said one time, she went to the river to bathe to be delivered from lesbianism but she found herself practising gay.

Despite the "heartwarming" story of this Twitter user, Yomi whose LGBT identity has been accepted by his Nigerian mother is strictly because the latter lives in a European world where the LGBTQ community is regularly accepted as there have been recorded cases of arrested gay persons.
