The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the comment by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the Kebbi State guber election is an affront to INEC powers.
The APC had called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to declare the results of the governorship election in the state which had been declared inconclusive.
Recall that a stalwart of the APC in Kebbi, Abubakar Gari-Malam had asked the INEC to declare the results in favour of its candidate, Nasiru Idris.
In a statement on Monday, the chairman of the PDP publicity committee in the state, Sani Dodo, described the call as an attempt to undermine the powers of the INEC.
“The PDP has dismissed the call by Alhaji Abubakar Gari Malam, Shettiman Gwandu to declare the results of the inconclusive Kebbi State Gubernatorial elections, describing it as premature, baseless and contemptuous to the electoral process.
“The recent newspaper interview credited to Alhaji Abubakar Malam calling on the INEC to declare APC gubernatorial candidate as duly returned is not only undemocratic but an attempt to undermine constitutional powers of INEC and call for anarchy in the state.
“There is no iota of doubt that Abubakar Malam is having a sinister intent out of the uninformed declaration call,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dodo appealed to supporters of the PDP to remain calm while awaiting the formal declaration of the winner by INEC.
