Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has threatened to sack all academic staff at Kaduna State University (KASU) if they don't go back to classrooms.

The Governor mentioned this during a live media chat in Kaduna on Wednesday.

He promised to declare positions of teaching staff vacant if he discovers they are still on strike.

According to the Governor, "Kaduna State Government does not have any industrial dispute with KASU."

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike since February 24, 2022, accusing the government of failing to honour the 2009 memorandum of understanding it signed.

Prominent individuals and groups including the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) have asked the Federal Government to bring an end to the industrial action to enable students to go back to classes.

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other affiliate groups led nationwide peaceful protests to compel the Federal Government to end the industrial action.

Congress issued a two-week ultimatum for the strike, saying that it would embark on a total, indefinite strike if the issue is not resolved.
