Bauchi: Mohammed approves over N600m for workers as leave grants

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has approved disbursement of the sum of N680 million to workers in the state as payment for their outstanding leave grants.

The gesture was part of efforts by the governor to support the workers with palliative to cushion effects of the current economic hardship. 

The State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka disclosed this in her office in Bauchi on Wednesday.

She said the money has been released for immediate disbursement to the benefiting workers while presenting a cheque of the money to the State Head of Civil Service, Adamu Yahuza.

She said the presentation of the cheque followed the governor's directive to make the payment promptly to the workers.

She equally appealed to the workers to be patient with the state government as the Governor was "doing his best to bring succour to residents during this challenging time."

Wanka stressed the presence of the representatives of the labour unions, civil service commission and management staff of the humanitarian ministry as evidence of greater commitment to the civil servants in the state.

The commissioner had recently explained that the payment was for the past 12 years owed by the state government. 

She had said: "To those in active service, they have been owed for about 12 years, specifically, the leave grant. 

"It has been agreed that the sum of N680 million is earmarked for the payment of leave grant of 2023.

“Health workers are not left out. We have health volunteers across the state and 1,000 of them will be given unconditional cash transfers for six months totalling N60 million."
