Benue State government has refuted claims of new COVID-19 cases found in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Yanmar Ortese, the state government confirmed that there was no confirmed case of COVID-19 in any part of the state.

Ortese said the report of the alleged outbreak of fresh COVID-19 in Benue was mischievous, baseless and a gross misquotation of the World Health Organization, WHO, surveillance officer’s statement that was intended to encourage COVID-19 vaccination.

The Commissioner also revealed that the last case of COVID-19 in Benue State was recorded in May and all the cases were asymptomatic.

However, the World Health Organisation (WHO), has announced  yesterday that 25 cases of fresh Coronavirus disease, COVID-19 infections, in Benue State.

The agency stated, "People should come out and get vaccinated because those dying of COVID when the vaccine is available are committing suicide. On our part we cannot allow people to die because they do not know that the vaccine is there to protect them. There is enough vaccine to protect everyone.

“This year we recorded 25 cases in Benue, though no fatalities that is the more reason why we must all come out and get vaccinated.”
