A South African man arrested after the decomposed body of his teen girlfriend was exhumed from a shallow grave in the backyard of his home, appeared briefly in the Moretele Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Following the discovery of Karabo Manyama, 15,'s body in a shallow grave at his residence in Cyferskuil near Makapanstand in North West, Lucas Malete, 23, was detained.
Malete was accused of murder, lying under oath, and subverting the course of justice, according to Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, a spokesperson for the North West police.
His case was adjourned until April 14 to apply for bail.
Manyama, a resident of Cyferskuil's Monageng Street, went missing on Sunday after leaving her house to watch soccer at a nearby field.
A search of the surrounding area and the Cyferskuil precinct yielded no results.
However, her decomposed body was exhumed from a shallow grave at the home of her boyfriend.
