In a significant development, eighteen out of the twenty-four lawmakers in the Zamfara State House of Assembly have taken the decision to impeach the Speaker, Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki.

This decision was reached during an emergency meeting held on Thursday night, where the lawmakers unanimously agreed to remove the Speaker from office.

Following the impeachment, the lawmakers subsequently ratified Hon. Bashar Gummi as the pro-tempore Speaker to assume leadership responsibilities in the interim period.

The decision to impeach the Speaker is reported to have stemmed from concerns over the resurgence of insecurity, particularly the persistent attacks by bandits on communities across the state.

The motion for the Speaker's impeachment was reportedly moved by Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru Constituency. The lawmakers highlighted the pressing issue of insecurity as a key factor leading to the Speaker's removal, emphasizing the need for urgent action to address the security challenges facing Zamfara State.
