Federal prosecutors have charged a man named Mark Anten, a Sun Valley resident in California, with plot to bomb the FBI Los Angeles field office.
Starting in July, Anten reportedly sent threatening emails to the FBI Los Angeles field office, adopting the moniker "Unabomber."
He compared himself to the Unabomber, claimed to be working on a manifesto, and warned that FBI agents would face threats of imprisonment and death.
“Specifically, on November 2, 2023, ANTEN emailed FBI agents saying he 'embrace[d]' that he was voted most likely in his graduating class to become the next Unabomber. In this email, ANTEN listed similarities between himself and the Unabomber, proclaimed that he was working on a manifesto, and signed his email 'Unabomber,'" the court documents filed said.
Despite being warned by FBI task force agents during a visit on November 20, Anten continued his menacing emails.
One such email on December 5 declared, "I AM THE UNABOMBER" and threatened to bomb the Los Angeles FBI headquarters.
He even mentioned a planned visit to Beverly Hills, indicating an impending attack. On December 6, Anten arrived at the office without weapons, but the threats persisted, including references to a potential "mass murder spree."
Federal prosecutors have charged Anten, but details about his legal representation are yet to be disclosed.
Court documents reveal Anten's history of online threats, including a post where he claimed to have bought firearms and expressed hostility toward perceived enemies.
His troubling online behavior, coupled with the alleged threats to the FBI, raises concerns about his potential for violence.
