The Nigeria Civil Service Union has urged the federal government to prioritize fairness in implementing the Oronsaye report to prevent job losses among workers.

Asogwa Gupada, the President of the union's FCT chapter, made the plea during the 58th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja.

The Oronsaye report proposes merging certain MDAs to reduce the cost of governance, a move slated for implementation by the federal government.

“Our stand is that the federal government should be fair in the implementation of the report. We do not want to lose our jobs,” said Gupada.

The union leader reiterated the union’s call on the government to trim political appointees at all levels of governance to save the huge sum of money used to maintain the offices.

Gupada said it was unfair for the government to prioritise MDAs’ merger above reducing its wasteful expenditure and appointments.

He said the tripartite committee on the new National Minimum Wage was on course and that workers were looking forward to a sustainable living wage.

“We are looking at the N709,000 proposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). We believe that workers should be paid a living wage as recommended by the union,” Gupada explained.

He also called on the government to address the issue of banditry to boost farming and other economic activities.
