Facebook announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Mumbai-based CleanMax to purchase a renewable energy project in India, its biggest market by users.

The 32-megawatt wind energy project is located in the Karnataka area and is part of an extensive collaboration between the social networking giant and the India-based company in wind and solar energy, according to their joint statement.

CleanMax will own and operate the projects, while Facebook will buy the power off the grid using environmental attribute certificates, or carbon credits, the companies said.
