French Football Federation (FFF) announced that Corinne Diacre has been sacked from her position as coach of the France women's team.

Diacre is in contract until 2024 but her position has been weakened following a revolt by leading players. Last month, team captain Wendie Renard announced that she would no longer play for the team, and fellow stars Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto followed suit, putting Diacre's job at risk.

According to the FFF, the problems within the squad had become "irreversible," leading the federation to make the decision to terminate Diacre's job as the head of the France women's team.

The 48-year-old had been in charge of the team since 2017 and had led them to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Women's World Cup.

Diacre's tenure as the coach had been a tumultuous one, with reports of tension between her and several players, including Renard, emerging in recent months. The decision to remove Diacre comes just months before France is set to host the Women's European Championship.

The FFF said that it would be launching a search for a new coach immediately and would announce a replacement in the coming weeks.
