The Governor of Gombe, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved a two-day public holiday ahead of the Easter celebration in the state.
Following the approval, the office of the Head of Civil Service declared Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1 as work-free days to mark the 2024 Good Friday and Easter Monday celebration.
The governor's approval was contained in a statement on Thursday signed by Jibrin Yusuf for the Head Of Civil Service and made available by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya's spokesperson.
According to the statement, the Head of Civil Service felicitated Christians and the general public. It added that all workers were to resume work on Tuesday, March 2, 2024, marking the end of the holiday.
The statement partly reads: "I am directed to inform you that His Excellency, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON (Dan Majen Gombe), the Governor of Gombe State has approved Friday, 29th and Monday 1 April 2024 as Public Holidays in the State to mark this year's Good Friday and Easter Monday.
"Accordingly, the Head of Civil Service wishes all Christians and the General Public a peaceful celebration of the occasions.
"Meanwhile, all essential services would be maintained throughout the Public Holidays and workers will resume their normal duties on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024 after the respective Public Holidays."
