Gombe: Yahaya commits to enhance support for innovative technologies

The Governor of Gombe, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed his administration's commitment to enhance support for innovative technologies in the state.

The governor said the support became necessary to reduce import dependency which has been killing the country's local industries.

Yahaya who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day 2024 Science, Technology, Innovation, Agriculture and Mineral Resources Expo in the state said his administration remains firm in supporting the drive for self-sufficiency in productive capacities. 

Representing the governor at the event on Saturday at the State Technology Incubation Center, his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau added that the state government will continue to ensure the strengthening of the state's economy to reduce poverty "and overcome the challenges that hinder development to improve the standard of living among residents of Gombe State."

"The present administration has a political will to support and encourage technology innovation towards taking Gombe state to the promised land of development, through supporting home-based technocrats."

On his part, the State Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation, Abdullahi Bappa Ahmad Garkuwa appreciated the governor for his numerous interventions to the ministry to enable them to carry out their activities.

Speaking on the event, he said: "This annual event has continued to link state innovators to investors and connected many others to beneficial networks.

"The Expo has been assisting the Ministry in fishing out talented persons and supporting them explore their talents for onward participation at the National Exhibitions Expo coming up between 11th - 15th March 2024.

"The success recorded in the past programs of the Ministry gave us the courage to organize this year's edition of the Expo, believing that it will create more opportunities for the inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs to build industries of their dreams from the results of their research, inventions and innovations and possible commercialization of their research results and production."
