Gombe: Yahaya donates N2.6 million, relief items to victims of police barracks fire

The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has donated the sum of N2.6 million and relief items to victims of the recent fire disaster at the 34 Mobile Police Barracks in the state.

The fire disaster which occurred on February 15 razed a complete block of houses belonging to 26 families. 

The governor's support was delivered by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau alongside the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi on Monday.

Presenting the items, the deputy governor lamented over the incident, "especially at a time of economic hardship, further compounding the problem people are passing through."

He said his principal, Governor Yahaya has sent a powerful delegation to identify with the victims and bring immediate relief to them before other supports come their way.

He further directed the State Commissioner of Works to urgently mobilize his men to assess the structures for government support.

As contained in a statement conveyed by Ismaila Uba Misilli, the spokesperson to the governor, Jatau presented the cash donation and listed the relief items, including "75 pieces of nylon mats, 100 pieces of mosquito nets, mattresses numbering 50, and blankets numbering 100.

"Other items are buckets, stoves and cooking pots each numbering 26 pieces, 52 wrappers, 52 Guinea brocades, 50 pieces each of children male and female wears as well as 100 kg of 26 bags of maize and 10 cartons of bathing soap."
