Gunmen on Monday invaded Obudi Agwa community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State and killed five persons, including the traditional ruler of the community, Ignitus Asor.
The armed men attacked the king's palace while a local issue was being handled and shot indiscriminately.
The Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Stephen Ajoku, as well as the traditional king, two palace chiefs, and two other community members all passed away instantly.
In addition to breaking into the neighbourhood, the gunmen also attacked the nearby Mgbala village, where they shot a pregnant woman and a local security guard.
A source said, “Our community was attacked Monday morning.
"The gunmen invaded the king’s palace where issues were being discussed.
"They opened fire and as I speak with you, the traditional ruler, Eze Asor, two chiefs and two others have been confirmed dead.
“The traditional prime minister of the community, Chief Ajoku, and a retired soldier was also shot but he is alive.
“Mgbala community was also attacked and a pregnant woman and vigilante officer were shot. They are alive as we speak.
"Our community bleeds. This is very unfortunate."
Obinna Jumbo, the coordinator of Agwa Development Center, said that the event had been reported to the police by the victims' relatives when she was contacted.
He further revealed that the victim's bodies had been taken away from the area and taken to a morgue.
Ijioma Ofili, the only administrator of Oguta LGA, disclosed that security personnel had reported the event to him.
He acknowledged that efforts were being made by his administration and security personnel to guarantee that justice was done.
The LGA boss claimed that the security personnel had brought the communities back to normal.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Michael Abattam, disclosed that a statement on the incident by the command would be ready in no distant time.
