President William Ruto while addressing the congregation at an Interdenominational Thanksgiving service held at the Nakuru Athletics Club on February 12, 2023, said that he will work with anyone, despite criticism from the Opposition.
"I will work with all leaders who have been elected by Kenyans. No one will put a boundary between me and the elected leaders," he said.
He stated that he is aiming to break the chain of ethnic politics during his presidency.
Ruto stated that because Kenyans voted for him across all areas, breaking the trend of tribalism, he will do the same in serving all counties.
"Kenya has been held hostage for ethnic politics.
"We need to change from that so that we move our country to the next level.
"All those who are prepared to work with me, I’m ready," he said.
Last week, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga chastised politicians for paying a visit to Ruto at State House.
At least nine Nyanza MPs and 32 Jubilee leaders met with Ruto, which Azimio coalition members severely opposed.
Azimio la Umoja reiterated its position that it will not tolerate betrayal by any of its elected officials.
The Coalition has ordered its members who are unwilling to follow party rules to leave.
“In this struggle, we shall not tolerate acts that amount to a betrayal of the dreams and aspirations of the people of Kenya.
"Azimio, therefore, asks its elected leaders to shape up or ship out,” reads the resolution from the leaders.
“There will be no two ways about this.”
Following the completion of a two-day parliamentary group meeting in Machakos, the decision was made.
Instead of meeting with President William Ruto, the leaders were ordered to lobby for regional development in Parliament.
“Development is to be sought from Parliament which appropriates resources and not from State House. State House has no constitutional mandate or power to appropriate funds,” the draft read.
