The Zamfara State Government has revealed that 75 secondary schools in the state are yet to be reopened as a result of insecurity.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Kabiru Attahi, made this known while speaking at a two-day state-level meeting organised by the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) in partnership with UNICEF to subjugate National Policy on Gender in Education (NPGE) in Zamfara.

Attahi said the schools were closed due to constant threats by bandits in the state, noting that the government was working tirelessly to ensure the schools are reopened.

The permanent secretary further noted that the closed schools were mainly all-girls secondary schools in the state.

The state government had in September 2021 ordered all schools to be closed after the abduction of 75 students from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of the State.
