The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (Kaduna SUBEB) has revealed plans to confirm the appointment of teachers recruited in 2018.

This was made known by Samaila Leeman, Permanent Member, Schools Management, Kaduna SUBEB in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kaduna.

The State government in 2018 recruited 25,000 qualified teachers to replace the 21,780 who were allegedly sacked by the government for failing a competency test.

According to Leeman, the teachers who are still in service will receive their letter of confirmation for job continuation, noting that some of the teachers have joined the secondary school service.

He added that the confirmation would be backdated to accommodate the time lost.

The permanent member also stated that the board had begun to clear the backlog of promotions for teaching and non-teaching staff.

He noted that promotions had been included in the budget and would be implemented as soon as the teachers receive their promotion letters.

“This is part of the incentive to motivate our teachers – our greatest assets to give in their best in improving the learning outcomes in public schools.

“Already about 10,000 teachers are being trained in different areas to enhance their capacity and professionalism.

“Aside from teacher professional development and other specialised training, our teachers are allowed to apply for further studies once they reach three years in service which can be sponsored or self-sponsored,” he said.

Leeman also said plans had been concluded by the state SUBEB to provide teachers with digital devices to aid effective and efficient teaching and their personal development.

He noted that the state government has approved the implementation of incentives for teachers who were posted to hard-to-reach areas in the state.

According to him, this would motivate the teachers to remain on duty and not feel neglected as opposed to teachers in urban areas.

“About 17 to 20 per cent of basic salary will be paid to teachers in rural communities as incentives,” Leeman said.
