Kano court remands 6, for allegedly killing youth in farmers, herders clash

A Kano Senior Magistrate's Court has remanded six persons in a correctional facility for killing one person during a farmers and herders clash in Kano's Bagwai LGA.

The court presided over by Talatu Makama, ordered the remand of six defendants suspected of involvement in the death of one Shehu Abubakar, 25, after a confrontation between herders and farmers in Bagwai LGA's Sarkin 'Ya locality.

The victim was transferred to Bagwai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The defendants were identified in the First Information Report as Sani Abdullahi Sarkin 'Ya, Ilyasu Isa, Saleh Saidu, Isyaku Yau, Rabiu Sani, Nata'ala Sani, and three other people who were still at large.

The defendants allegedly blocked a road, obstructing herders on their way to feed their animals, according to the prosecution.

They were accused of killing 97 cattle and transporting 91 others to unknown locations.

The prosecutor calculated the worth of the killed and missing cows at N102.7 million.

He further claimed that the defendants set fire to nine Boxer motorcycles.

The prosecutor further claimed that the defendants' activities violated sections 97, 221 and 329 of Kano State's Penal Code Law.

Following the reading of the FIR, the accused pled not guilty to the accusations.
