Chairman of the Dangote group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has distributed 120,000 bags of rice to vulnerable groups in Kano State.

Supported by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday, Dangote said the gesture was to reduce the suffering of people due to the current economic realities.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote group further noted that the support carried out by the Dangote foundation plans to distribute one million bags of rice, valued at over N13 billion, across all 36 states of the Federation and Abuja.

He explained that "This initiative is in addition to the foundation's ongoing daily distribution of 20,000 loaves of bread to Kano residents and 15,000 to Lagos residents, which commenced in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Speaking on the Ramadan feeding, he said meals were provided to people, including jollof rice, white rice and stew, jollof spaghetti, yam, beans with chicken and beef, each accompanied by a bottle of water and a beverage for each recipient.

He added that the packaged meals were being distributed across Juma'at mosques, streets, prisons, orphanages, remand homes, and various locations within the Kano city.

On his part, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the donation of the 120,000 bags of rice and commended Dangote for his continuous support to the people of Kano.

He said: "I am deeply grateful for the generosity and compassion shown by our brother, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

"This act of kindness, particularly during this sacred month of Ramadan, exemplifies the spirit of unity, compassion, and support that our community greatly needs, especially in these challenging times."

As contained in a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson, Yusuf recognized the significant number of people in dire need of assistance, emphasizing that government efforts alone were insufficient to cater for the needs.
