Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched an investigation into irregularities discovered in the Ramadan Feeding Program.
This comes after a surprise visit to Kano metropolis feeding centres on Friday.
Recall that Governor Yusuf had expressed dismay at the programme's operation when he paid a surprise visit to some selected Ramadan Feeding Centres.
The Director General Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, revealed to newsmen on Sunday that in the next 24 hours, the government would readjust the Feeding Committee handling the exercise.
He said, “The program initially aimed to feed 1,000 people daily at each of the 80 centres established across eight metropolitan Local Government Areas.
“However, Governor Yusuf reportedly found only 450 registered beneficiaries being fed during his visit. These findings prompted the Governor to order a probe into the whole misappropriation with the aim of punishing those involved.”
Dawakin Tofa emphasized Governor Yusuf's stance on dishonesty and mismanagement of public resources.
The spokesperson further disclosed that the Federal Government had supported the State with one hundred trucks of rice, 44 trucks of sorghum, 14 trucks of millet and 4 trucks of maize, while the Dangote Foundation supported the State with 120,000 10kg bags of rice.
