Kano: Police arraign Hausa film actress Amal Umar over bribery scandal

The Nigerian Police Force, Zone 1 in Kano State has arraigned a popular Hausa film actress, Amal Umar before the Magistrate Court No. 24 in Gyadi-Gyadi area of the state metropolis for allegedly offering a bribe of N500,000 to its officer.

The 24-year-old suspect was alleged to have made a payment of N250,000 to one ASP Salisu Bujama of the Zone 1 headquarters from the total amount to close a fraud case involving her and her boyfriend, one Ramadan Inuwa.

In a video made available on Thursday by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Bashir Muhammed, spokesperson of the Zone 1 police headquarters said the said boyfriend allegedly misappropriated N40 million from a cell phone business with the complainant.

He said the complainant, Alhaji Yusuf Adamu had registered his complaint through his lawyer, H.I. Dederi with the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Umar Mohd Sanda on August 18, 2022.

Mohammed said: "When the police commenced an investigation, they realized there was N13 million sent to the account of one Amal Umar, which investigation revealed to us that she is a Hausa film actress from Kannywood. She also confessed to us that the money was sent by her boyfriend."

He added that the embattled actress was consequently released on bail after her initial arrest but she returned with the bribe to get her car which was equally allegedly bought for her by the said boyfriend.
