The Girls Education Partnership says the Kano State Government has approved the recruitment of 195 female teachers through the ministry for local governments.
This was disclosed during the weekend, as contained in a statement issued by the Co-Chair of Girl Child Education partnership, Mairo Bello on Monday.
The group commended the state government for the initiative, saying it will boost the girl child education in the state.
GEP commended the appropriation of one hundred million Naira in 2022 budget to recruit one thousand female teachers.
The ministries of education, planning and budget in collaboration with PERL office, Kano, under the sponsorship of Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) with other key MDAs implementing inclusive education had in 2021 developed a comprehensive Annual Operational Plan (AOP) under the auspices of the Girls Education Partnership (GEP) .
"The partnership in collaboration with state's ministry of planning and budget created a budget code on girls education and infuse it into the 2022 budget across relevant MDAs of the state.
"This was aimed at according Girls education wide coverage across 44 Local Government Areas of the state."
The partnership commended Kano state government for repairing 14 out of the grounded school buses meant for shuttling girls to school.
The GEP Co-Chair (government), Dr. Kabiru Shehu noted that the approved the payment of N199 million for girls to write NECO examination in the state.
According to him, government also repaired 29 school buses to enhance transportation of the girl child from home to school and vice versa.
He assured of government's continued support to girl child education in the state.
