The Kano State government has rolled out a new piece of legislation regarding the sharing of tricyles in the state between the opposite sex.

The state government has banned people of the opposite sex from boarding the same tricycle, and this law will go into effect in January 2020.

The ban was disclosed by the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, at the 77th Anual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) on Wednesday at Bayero University in Kano.

Harun Ibn-Sina, the Commander General of Hisbah Board, represented the governor at the event that was put together by the Zone A of the Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN).

According to the governor's proxy, the Kano State government is dedicated to entrenching and preserving of the state's islamic values.

The introduction of tricycles in the state was originally meant for the female sex, and was introduced by the state's former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, until the law was reversed and allowed to be used by both sexes.

The Managing Director of Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Baffa Agundi, said in September that the state had the intention of prohibiting the movement of tricycles by the end of the year, a move that aims at the sanitization of the commercial tricycle operating space.
