Katsina: Radda doles out N470m to victims of banditry, COVID-19

The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda has flagged off the distribution of N470 million to victims of banditry and COVID-19 in the state.

During the ceremony on Monday, Governor Radda said the support was made through a partnership with the international donor agency, the R.H Equipt aimed at reducing effects of the current economic hardship.

He explained that each of the 550 victims of banditry received N150,000, totalling N82.5 million while 3,876 COVID-19 victims received N100,000 each, amounting to N387.6 million. 

He said: "This brings the total disbursement to N470 million, excluding the cost of training provided to beneficiaries across Katsina's 34 Local Government Areas."

The Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed made this known in a statement on Tuesday morning.

According to Mohammed, the governor said the gesture was in fulfillment of his campaign promise made during the January 2023 BBC Governorship debate. 

The governor had promised to commit to empowering those affected by banditry and COVID-19, especially women and girls who were worst hit by the scourge.

Governor Radda further commended the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development as well as the State House of Assembly for their roles in selecting and training the beneficiaries. 

On his part, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Ahmad Muhammad Bakori appreciated the Governor and the programme partner for the support to ensure success of the empowerment.

Also speaking, Professor Muhammad Yusuf Dandume who represented the R.H. Equipt reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the State Government to achieve success in the programme.
