Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has given his approval for the appointment of Prof. Benard Matur as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Plateau State University (PLASU) in Bokkos.
The announcement was made in a statement issued in Jos on Monday by Dr Makut Macham, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, and was released to newsmen.
The governor stated that the recommendation for Matur's appointment was made by the University's Governing Council.
The appointment, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), would take effect following the conclusion of the tenure of the outgoing VC, Prof. Yohanna Izam on Tuesday, February 21, 2023
Lalong expressed gratitude to Izam for his excellent service and pragmatic leadership “which has improved the standard of the university as one of the most sought-after in the country”.
The governor wished him well in his future endeavors.
Prior to his appointment, Matur served as the commissioner for Higher Education in Plateau State.
He was also the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Abuja, and held several key positions at the University of Abuja, including Dean of the College of Sciences, Dean of Student Affairs, and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences.
He was also the Head of the Department of Remedial Studies at the University of Jos.
In the same statement, Lalong authorised the change of nomenclature and the upgrade of the College of Arts, Science and Technology Kurgwi to Ignatius Longjan Polytechnic, in accordance with the State House of Assembly's law on the bill for the establishment of the polytechnic, scheduled to take effect in 2022.
