Lucid Motors has issued a recall for 1,117 Air EVs specific to the ethernet wiring harness for the Glass Cockpit instrument panel.
According to a statement of the recall released on the NHTSA website and obtained by Lucid Insiders, loose cables on 2022 Air vehicles could cause the car's screens to turn off.
Because the Air's displays provide essential information such as speed, range, and warning signs, this would constitute a safety hazard, violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
“The harness can become damaged by rubbing against another part of the vehicle and disable the display screens.
"Disabled display screens will not show critical information, such as speed, gear selection indicators, warning lights, and other in-vehicle notifications, which can increase the risk of a crash,” the company added.
According to the letter, there could be 1,117 automobiles affected.
Because Lucid has only delivered a few hundred cars, the recall looks to apply to all 2022 Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring variants.
Call Lucid's customer support at 1-888-995-8243 and mention recall number NCR-22-01-0 to acquire more information for any potentially impacted owners.
On June 20, official notification letters will be sent out. Meanwhile, the NHTSA says Lucid dealers would be responsible for evaluating vehicles and correcting issues as needed, free of charge, for those affected by the recall.
According to Lucid Insiders, the business has already begun adjusting the glass canopy on new vehicles to eliminate any difficulties with unsecured wiring in the future.
The fact that this recall comes just a few months after Lucid recalled 200 cars for front strut dampers that may have been fitted incorrectly by a supplier is probably the bigger issue.
With over 25,000 bookings for the Air, resolving any faults will be critical if Lucid intends to deliver those cars on schedule.
