Measles Vaccination Commences October 6 In Osun

The integrated Measles vaccination exercise for children would commence in Osun State from October 6, the Osun State Government has disclosed.

Making the disclosure in Osogbo on Friday during a stakeholders meeting, Dr Olubukola Olujide enjoined parents, guardians and caregivers to make their wards available for the exercise.

Dr Olujide also noted that the exercise would take place between October 6 and 11, 2022.

She also disclosed that the vaccine will be administered to children who fall within the eligible age of nine to 59 months.

According to her, the exercise which will hold across the 30 local governments and area councils in the state will be conducted with the active collaboration of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, World Health Organisation, United Nations Children Fund and other development partners.

She also added that it will be carried out in line with the National Measles Elimination Strategic Plan 2018-2028.

The Executive Director also added that the exercise would feature different campaigns.

"The forthcoming measles vaccination campaign will be integrated with other primary healthcare services and routine immunization to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

"This will be carried out especially at the primary healthcare level and it will also provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to access multiple services at the same time.

“I want to assure the good people of Osun State that immunisation is safe and effective, and I, therefore, call on all people of Osun to take advantage of this mass campaign."

Meanwhile, the Osun State Health Promotion Officer, Taiwo Adeniji stated that the vaccination team will be visiting special places like churches, mosques, schools, motor parks, market places and other places where children eligible for the vaccines would be found.

Adeniji also added that the exercise would be facility based which would aid easy access.
