A mentally challenged woman in a viral video on Twitter gives birth to a bouncing baby boy and breastfeeds the baby.
In the video, people can be seen recording the scene of the event. It was gathered that the event took place in Abia State, Southeast Nigeria.
The woman with the mental challenge was reported to have gone into labour by the roadside. She thereafter gave birth to the baby all by herself.
Regardless of the state of her mental health, her maternal instinct kicked in and she cuddled the baby to her chest and breastfed him.
The video has generated a lot of reaction from Twitter users, which particularly centered on who impregnated her with her state of health. The social media users also tongue-lashed those who were gathered at the scene to watch and record rather than trying to help the woman.

So far, Nigeria has no legislation to protect and safeguard this vulnerable category of people in society, whose fate may be different if there are laws to protect their interests. The nation currently faces a global human rights emergency in mental health and it is hoped that something would be done about this in earnest.
A Mental Health Bill (2019) is currently at the Senate, which is still on its first reading.
