Liverpool's Darwin Nunez made it 2-0 87th minute. The game saw controversy when Messi was fouled and players on both sides were involved in a heated argument with Uruguay's Manuel Ugarte and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez the focal point.

Messi was brought down with the match scoreless before Ugarte shouted at the Argentine side through a mass of bodies.

But Fernandes took notice of this, squaring up to the 22-year-old and shoving him on the chest. Ugarte retaliated and had to be held back by his own teammates.

In the end, Lionel Messi spoke about the incident saying

“I prefer not to say what I think about some gestures. But these young people have to learn to respect their elders. This game was always intense and hard but always with a lot of respect. They have to learn a little bit.”

Argentina's next game is against almighty rivals Brazil, while Uruguay welcomes Bolivia at home in the South American qualifiers.
