The Council chairman of Doma local government in Nasarawa state has been suspended over alleged misconduct.

The state assembly passed a resolution suspending the Executive Chairman of the area council, Architect Ahmed Sarki Usman for six months with immediate effect.

Speaker of the legislative arm, Igbabo Rabo announced the suspension during plenary on Wednesday citing the failure of the council Chairman to present the budget for the 2023 fiscal year in flagrant breach of section 41(2) of the Nasarawa State Local Government Law 2018 as amended.

Rabo also accused the suspended Chairman of assaulting some members of the Legislative Arm at his residence in Lafia on August 12, 2022.

Other allegations include deliberate refusal to appear before the lawmakers, involvement in anti-party activities, forceful removal of the Sergeant at Arm of the Legislative Arm, repeated denial of the Legislative Arm access to financial details of the Council and blatant refusal to devote 45% of funds accrued to the Council for development projects in the Development Area as enshrined in section 77 of the Nasarawa State Local Government 2018 as amended.
