Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has visited the survivors of the stampede at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi(NSUK).

Akabe visited the survivors at the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Keffi where they are receiving medical attention following the stampede on Friday morning.

The stampede at the Convocation Square of the state-owned institution prior to the distribution of palliative designed to cushion the effect of subsidy removal in the country also claimed the lives of some undergraduate students.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Sule has blamed the unfortunate incident on those he described as suspected hoodlums and some misguided students.

The Governor who made this known in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Addra, however vowed to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in the acts.

Governor Sule had recently flagged off the distribution of 2 bags of 7.5kg rice and ₦5,000 as palliative to students of tertiary institutions in the State.

The exercise which began on Monday March 18 with students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia was however marred by gross irregularities as many beneficiaries only received rice.

The exercise at the state-owned university, NSUK which houses majority of the targeted beneficiaries scheduled for Friday March 22 was also marred by irregularities which led to the fatal stampede.
