Neymar on Friday surpassed Pele as Brazil's male all-time top scorer with his record 78th and 79th goals in a 5-1 win over Bolivia.
The 31-year-old, who was level with legend Pele on 77 goals, scored twice in the second half on his 125th appearance after he missed a penalty in the 17th minute.
His record-breaking goal came in the 61st minute from close range and his second came in added time in similar fashion.
"I never imagined reaching this record," said Neymar, who joined Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal in the summer.
"I'm no better than Pele or any other player for the national team."
Paying tribute to Neymar on his achievement, the handler of Pele's official account on social media platform X wrote: "Congratulations Neymar for surpassing the King in goals for Brazil.
"Surely Pele is applauding you today!"
