Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide has asked the leaders of ECOWAS to hang Niger Juntas by the neck until death amid the threat made by the Mutineers to kill President Bazoum if ECOWAS and neighbouring countries intervened using military invasion.
Initially, two Western diplomats told The Associated Press that the coup plotters told a top US ambassador that if military action is used to restore the rule of law, they would execute Bazoum.
According to a Western military officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity, junta representatives informed US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland of the danger to Bazoum during her visit to the nation this week.
In a statement in response to the threat to the deposed president's life, Omokri urged President Bola Tinubu and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to also send a warning to General Abdourahamane Tchiani, stating that if any harm came to Bazoum, he would be treated as a common criminal.
If the threat is carried out, he insists that the culprits be tried by the ECOWAS court and hanged by the neck until they die.
"On General Tchiani's threat to kill President Mohamed Bazoum if ECOWAS intervenes militarily to restore constitutional order in Niger.
"I urge President Tinubu and ECOWAS to respond strongly with a warning that if General Tchiani carries out his threat, he will be treated as a common criminal when ECOWAS restores order.
"He and any soldiers found culpable in such an act will be tried by the ECOWAS court, and if guilty, they will be hung in the neck until dead, in keeping with international law, of which the ECOWAS is a subscriber.
"This threat calls for decisiveness, not niceness, Omokri stated.
