The Niger State Police Command has commenced a search for Aisha Aliyu, a 19-year-old housewife who stabbed her husband, Idris Ahmadu, with a knife in Nasarawa village, which is located in the Lapai Local government area of the state.
The police said that the suspect had fled the scene before the arrival of operatives, according to a statement made by Deputy Superintendent Wasiu Abiodun, the command's spokesperson.
"We're working hard to get her arrested", he said.
The couple got married on December 31, 2023, according to a local source who spoke with AIT News about the incident, which occurred on Monday, February 12, at around 1:00 am.
It was learned that the pair had a little quarrel in the evening of Sunday, and they were reconciled before going to bed, until midnight, when the deceased's mother heard him screaming for help.
"When the mother and other occupants came out, they found him in a pool of blood. He attempted to flee the room, but he collapsed on the doorstep. But we still don't know where his wife is," the person stated.
According to the informant, who refused to reveal his identity, the wife stabbed her husband in the chest before murdering him.
Another source added, "The couple had been in a relationship for years, but before the wedding date was fixed, she had a change of mind to marry someone else.
"But even with that, issues were resolved. They started this relationship right out of secondary school, and they had been together.
"Before the marriage, she said she was no longer interested in the relationship, but the issue was resolved, and she eventually agreed, not knowing that this was her plan. She said she had a new suitor,” he said.
The police said the case was under investigation as manhunt intensified for the fleeing suspect.
