The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has pleaded with stakeholders to collaborate with it to expand chances for digitisation and entrepreneurial progress.
The request was made in a message at a stakeholders' meeting on Wednesday in Sokoto by NITDA Director General Kashifu Abdullahi.
NITDA and the government of Sokoto State jointly organised the programme, which had the title "Creating Opportunities, Breaking Boundaries: Toward Digitization and Entrepreneurial Evolution."
Abdullahi said NITDA had commemorated 20 years of progress and tenacity in encouraging development via effective Information Technology (IT) Governance in Nigeria. He was represented by Jide Ajayi.
According to him, the agency took into account the ecosystem's needs for the digital economy and responded accordingly by implementing crucial areas through smart activities.
”Areas included National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy which focus on developmental regulation, digital literacy and skills, solid infrastructure, service infrastructure and digital development and promotion.
”Other areas are digital society and emergency technologies, soft infrastructure and indigenous content development and adoption,” Abdullahi said.
According to him, NITDA is determined to be closer to stakeholders as a process-driven, data-dependant and results-oriented organization.
”We envisage meeting the objectives of National IT Governance, delivering value to our stakeholders toward meeting the core values of people first, innovativeness and professionalism.”
He listed some of the stakeholder- and NITDA-consulted programmes that were carried out under the direction of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
He mentioned the National Adopted School for Smart Education, the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture, and the Digital Literacy Capacity Training for Persons Living with Disabilities.
Support for ICT Innovation Hubs, the construction of community IT centres, the creation of state IT policy, and others were also mentioned.
The DG claimed that NITDA had subsequently developed a plan to address fresh possibilities and problems in the ecosystem of the digital economy.
He said that the organisation had subsequently released the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2021–2024 to provide guidance and a solid foundation for reducing threats to the ecosystem of the digital economy.
Alhaji Murtala Isa, the director of ICT and fiscal responsibility for Sokoto State, had earlier stated that the state was dedicated to implementing ICT-related policies to facilitate commercial operations and advance e-governance.
According to him, the government formed the ICT Directorate in 2007 to oversee its ICT policies.
The agency's intervention, according to Nurul-Amin Mustapha, the NITDA Zonal Head responsible for the North West, had changed the digital landscape, particularly in terms of social and commercial activity.
Mustapha stated that the interactions amongst the stakeholders were a part of the initiatives to capitalise on and preserve the results that NITDA had achieved.
Participants included government representatives, academics, community-based organisations, and NGOs from the states of Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
